When Al Gore released An Inconvenient Truth, in 2006, awareness on climate change soared and so did the amount of environmental documentaries. Here’s a list of documentaries that will give you a thought provoking (yet terrifying) insight into the issues the planet faces today.

 

Chasing Ice, 2012

Chasing Ice is an eye-opening account of climate change. Jeff Orlowski’s Oscar-nominated documentary, Chasing Ice, follows a team of scientists as they record the melting of the ice caps in Greenland, Iceland, and Alaska. The film is undeniable truth that the planet is being effected by global warming.

At this point, you have probably been lectured on the effects of drinking from non-reusable plastic water bottles, but, you still may not be convinced. However, there will be no doubt after watching Tapped, and you will never buy a non-reusable plastic water bottle ever again. The film shows how the business has created an environmental disaster, as well as, how misleading the marketing is.

The film also offers potential solutions by reshaping the thinking of humanity.

Gasland was one of the main kick starters for the anti-fracking movement. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 2011, the film focuses on natural gas drilling and the affects it has on communities throughout the U.S.
