Gisele Bündchen was just a small town girl when she was discovered by a modeling agency, when she was 14-years-old. However, this small town girl, she quickly adapted to the modeling industry and developed the drive to become the best. She did just that. She became the highest paid supermodel in the world. Although, it wasn’t always easy. She’s an actress, super model, mom, activist and so much more – this is the life story of Gisele Bündchen.
She Has A Twin
Gisele was born on July 20, 1980 in a small town in Brazil. She was born minutes before her fraternal twin, Patricia. Gisele enjoyed going to her grandparents’ farm and helping take care of the animals. She was also very adventurous and loved anything to get her adrenaline pumping. She was very competitive and participated in sports such as ballet, gymnastics and track and field.
She Was Always Tall
From the time she was young, she was always taller than most boys and girls in her class. Sadly, as a teenager, she did not see her height as a positive. Many of her peers would make fun of her and call her silly nicknames because she was so tall and thin. However, that did not stop her from doing anything she had her heart set on.
Discovered In A Mall
In 1994, Gisele and her sister, Gabriela, decided to attend a modeling course. The course ended with a trip to the big cities in the area – Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The sisters had never been to a big city and were excited to see everything. While shopping at the local mall, Gisele was spotted by a modeling agency. Although Gisele wanted to continue exploring the city with her sister, she reluctantly went back to the agency office with her mother.
Moved From Home At 15
When she was only 15-years-old, Gisele decided to leave her childhood home and move to Sao Paulo. Although it was hard to make her way through the modeling industry in the beginning, she never gave up. That same year, she took a long trip to Japan to begin some editorial modeling and to build up her portfolio. She now felt she had enough experience to step up to the modeling big leagues.
Moved To New York At 16
Despite not knowing any English, when she was 16-years-old, she moved to New York City. She attended countless castings, until eventually one designer decided to have her in her show. Her presence was felt on the runway and soon many more jobs began rolling in. Gisele was far from the current norm of most models. She was not pale-faced, pencil-thin, but rather had a glowing tan and beautiful curves.
Model Of The Year
According to Vogue, “In 1998 she [Gisele] secured her first British Vogue cover, and became the most in-demand cover girl of her generation with 10 covers in less than four years – even Kate Moss has never graced more than nine in the same period.” Gisele had turned the fashion industry upside down with her looks, and by the time she was 19-years-old, she was given the title of Vogue’s “Model of The Year”.
From Model To Super Model
In 2000, Bündchen landed an impressive, record-breaking $25 million contract with the lingerie company, Victoria’s Secret. This contract solidified her title of “super model”. That same year, she was named “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” by Rolling Stone magazine. That year she opened shows for designers such as Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabbana, and Valentino.
World’s Highest Paid Model
In 2004, Gisele was named the world’s highest paid model by “Forbes”. This was in thanks to not only her modeling but to also her various endorsement deals. That same year, she also made her way onto the big screen. She made her film debut in “Taxi”, as the leader of a gang of bank robbers. Her next role was as the Serena, the friend of suffering assistant Emily, in “The Devil Wears Prada” in 2006.
Meets Tom Brady
In 2006, Gisele met Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Gisele said, “I knew right away – the first time I saw him. The moment I saw him, he smiled and I was like, ‘That is the most beautiful, charismatic smile I’ve ever seen!’ We sat and talked for three hours… You know that feeling of, like, you can’t get enough? From the first day we met, we’ve never spent one day without speaking to each other.”
Tom & Gisele Start A Family
In April 2009, Gisele and Brady got married in a small ceremony in Costa Rica. In December of that year, she gave birth to their son Benjamin Rein Brady. After her son was born, she quickly began a new workout routine of yoga and Kung Fu. By April 2010, she once again graced the cover of magazines.
