“Neighbours” first aired in 1985. The show follows the lives of the people, who live and work in Erinsborough, with a primary focus on the residents of Ramsay Street. Death, heartbreak, along with love and success keep the series going. As one of the longest running shows in TV history, the show has had a lot of phenomenal cast members. Anne Charleston (Madge Bishop)


Anne Charleston played the first major matriarch character, of Madge Bishop, from 1986-1992, and then again from 1996-2001. Madge Bishop originally left the series after she had lost her love, Harold Bishop. She believed he had drowned at sea. However, 5 years later she got a phone call that said Harold is alive, and he had suffered from amnesia. They moved back to Ramsay Street. However, in 2001, Madge was diagnosed with cancer, which ultimately led to her demise. She briefly made an appearance again in 2015 as an apparition.

Anne Charleston (Madge Bishop)


Since leaving the show, Anne Charleston has continued to act. She landed various roles on TV shows and in live stage productions. She had recurring roles on “Dossa and Joe” and “Emmerdale.” From 2014-2015, she played the role of the Fairy Godmother in “Cinderella” at the Redditch Palace Theater. However, the now 74-year-old is still best remembered for her performance as Madge Bishop.

Jason Donovan (Scott Robinson)


The character of Scott Robinson was on “Neighbours” from 1985-1989. The character was originally played by Darius Perkins, but the role was taken over by Jason Donovan, in 1986. After trying to stop Charlene from getting into her Uncle’s house, and a slap across the face, Charlene and Scott quickly formed a tight bond. After dating for over a year Scott proposes to Charlene. The marriage had some rough patches, but they ultimately end up together and have 2 children.

Jason Donovan (Scott Robinson)


Jason Donovan went on to have a pretty successful career in both acting and singing. His 1988 duet with Kylie Minogue “Especially for You,” hit number one in the UK. He has appeared as various lead roles in the musical productions such as “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and “The Rocky Horror Show.” In 2015, he began presenting the “All 80s Show,” on Heart Radio. In 2016, he toured the UK with his “Ten Good Reasons” and “Greatest Hits” tour.

Mark Little (Joe Mangel)


From 1988-1991, Joe Mangel was played by Mark Little. Joe was nothing like his mother. He enjoyed gardening and a good beer. Joe had a lot of hardships: his strained relationship with his mother, being widowed, and having a custody battle to keep his child. Joe leaves the show after he receives a call from his son Toby, who needed help on the farm. Mark Little came back to the show in 2005, to reprise his role of Joe.

Mark Little (Joe Mangel)


Unfortunately, Mark Little was type-casted after his strong performance of Joe Mangel. However, his acting career has been steady, since he left the show. In 2008, he appeared in the TV series “Casualty” and “Emmerdale.” In 2010, he had roles on “Whites” and “Ladies of Letters.” His most recent role was as Rupert Guinness, alongside Ben Foster, in the 2015 film “The Program.” Also in 2015, he appeared on a Neighbours’ 30th anniversary documentary titled “Neighbours 30th: The Stars Reunite.”

Alan Dale (Jim Robinson)


Alan Dale played one of the original characters on the show, Jim Robinson. Jim was always seen as the friendly father figure on Ramsay Street. Many of Jim’s storylines revolved around his children (or unknown children) and his potential girlfriends. Jim was written out of the show after he dramatically suffered a heart attack in 1993. Fiona Hartman had first found his body, but fled so she could take all his money.

Alan Dale (Jim Robinson)


After leaving Neighbors, Alan had various roles in TV series. However, he got his big break when he landed role of Vice President Jim Prescott on the hit TV series “24.” The big roles only continued to roll in from there. He had recurring roles on “The O.C.,” “Ugly Betty,” “Lost,” “Hot in Cleveland,” and “Dominion.” His most recent on-camera role was as King George in “Once Upon a Time.” He also played the lead role of King Arthur, on the West End stage in “Spamalot.”

George Spartels (Benito Alessi)


Benito Alessi, played by George Spartels, was on the show from 1992-1993. Although they were later married, Benito and Cathy got pregnant at 16-years-old, and were forced to give up their daughter for adoption. Later in life they had 2 sons, Rick and Marco. After finding out Cathy is unable to have anymore children, Benito decides to find the daughter they gave up for adoption, Lindsey. Benito is later offered a job in Sydney, and he moves there with Cathy.

George Spartels (Benito Alessi)


George Spartels became a household name after he began hosting the longest-running children’s show in Australia, “Play School.” He hosted from 1985-1999. He has produced a number of children’s videos. He also appeared in TV series such as “All Saints,” “City Homicide,” and “Packed to the Rafters.” He was married to actress Elizabeth Alexander, but remarried in 2013, and he currently lives in Sydney.

Krista Vendy (Teresa Bell)


English teacher Teresa “Tess” Bell was portrayed by Krista Vendy. She moved to Erinsborough to seek her independence and refuge from her violent husband Brendan. However, when Brendan comes to Ramsay Street, he talks his way back into her affections. At one point she begins to have an affair with Darcy Tyler, even though he is dating her best friend Dee. Eventually, Darcy proposes and to everyone’s surprise she accepts. However, she contacts one of his ex-girlfriends, Alice Jamison, after which she decides to not go through with the wedding. She leaves Ramsay Street in 2001, after deciding to look for a teaching job in London.

Krista Vendy (Teresa Bell)


Krista Vendy is still one of the most beautiful women to have lived on Ramsay Street. After leaving the show, she landed various TV roles and a few movie roles. She appeared in feature films “The Incredible Hulk” and “Matching Jack.” She is also credited with have a role in the film “Choir Girl,” which is currently in pre-production. She also made headlines back in 2006, when she dumped footballer Marcus Baldwin to date actor William Hurt. Vendy and Hurt split in 2010.

Maggie Dence (Dorothy Burke)


The Principal of Erinsborough High School, Dorothy Burke, was played by Maggie Dence, from 1990-1993. At one point her nephew, Ryan, finds a letter from his Uncle Colin. He tells Dorothy he believes Colin is in jail and is not dead. She makes Ryan keep it a secret. However, Colin eventually turns up and tries to get Dorothy’s forgiveness, which she does not give to him. She later finds a lump on her breast and it is diagnosed as cancerous. When the school inspector, Tom Merrick, arrives, Dorothy immediately falls for him. They eventually leave together and move to the countryside.

Maggie dence has had a rather successful acting career, since she left the show, in 1993. She has appeared on many TV series like “Blue Heelers,” “All Saints,” and “Rake.” She also had recurring roles on “Out Of The Blue” and “Wonderland.” But, she hasn’t just appeared in TV, she has landed roles in movies, as well. She had roles in “Peter Pan” and “Look Both Ways.” After her longstanding involvement with the NSW Actors’ Benevolent Fund, she received the Equity Awards Lifetime Achievement, in 2011.

Nicky Whelan (Heidi “Pepper” Steiger)


Heidi “Pepper” Steiger was played by Nicky Whelan from 2006-2007. In early 2007, Pepper shared a same-sex kiss Rosie, in the heat of the moment. However, they never became a couple, like Ringo Brown believed. After a routine pap test, it is revealed the Pepper had cervical dysplasia and needed to get surgery. She finds a job opportunity in Cairns, and she ends up leaving, with Adam, to take the job.

Nicky Whelan (Heidi “Pepper” Steiger)


Nicky Whelan was very grateful for her time on “Neighbours,” as they took her on with no acting experience and she learned a lot. She now has a very respectable acting resume. She had recurring roles on TV series such as “Scrubs,” “Chosen,” and “Matador.” She appeared in films like”Hall Pass,” “The Wedding Ringer,” and “Dog Eat Dog,” alongside Nicolas Cage. She is now engaged to former NFL star Kerry Rhodes.

Eliza Taylor (Janae Timmins)


Eliza Taylor played Janae Timmins from 2005-2008. Janae dated Mike Pill, who allowed his friends to try and seduce her. After he tries to force Janae to kiss one of his friends at a club, she leaves him. However, she later breaks in a clinic and reads Mike’s files and finds out he is HIV positive. Fortunately, after tests she finds she is not. After a marriage to Max Hoyland, she decides to move to Cairns to live a simpler life.

Eliza Taylor (Janae Timmins)


After leaving “Neighbours,” in 2008, Eliza Taylor continued to act. She had roles in various TV series such as “Packed to the Rafters,” “All Saints,” and “Mr & Mrs Murder.” However, her breakout and current role was as Clarke Griffin in the hit TV series “The 100.” For this performance, in 2016, she was nominated for the Teen Choice Award for Best TV Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy. She is set to appear in the crime-thriller “Thumper,” alongside Daniel Webber.

Sabina Lokic (Mandi Rogers)


Sabina Lokic played Mandi Rogers from 1997-1998. She was good friends with Caitlin Atkins, as they both were swimmers, and trained together a lot. Mandi’s parents eventually move to Geelong but allow Mandi to stay on the swim team. Her friend Caitlin had an eye for Billy Kennedy, and even though he was dating Anne Wilkinson, she still attempted to go after him. Caitlin had Mandi lock the two of them in a dressing room.

Sabina Lokic (Mandi Rogers)


Unfortunately Sabina Lokic’s acting career never took off after leaving the show in 1998. She is credited with 2 acting roles. She appeared in the TV series “The Secret Life of Us” in 2005, and in the short film “Hanging at Picnic Rock,” in 2009. Sabina also had a need to travel so she became  a flight attendant for Emirates out of Saudi Arabia and traveled the world for 4 years.

Raelee Hill (Serendipity Gottlieb)


Hippie Serendipity Gottlieb arrived on the show in 1994. She was played by Raelee Hill. Serendipity was considered a free spirit and lived her life by following her heart, not her brain. Ren and Danni Stark ran a jewelry and fashion business. It began to change her as she was now making more money and becoming greedy. However, she had a minor breakdown when she found out their clothes are being created in a sweatshop. Luke Handley eventually proposed to Ren and she accepted. When Luke is offered a job in Japan, she went with him.

Raelee Hill (Serendipity Gottlieb)


Raelee Hill continued to act after leaving Ramsay street. She has a wide array of roles in many different genres of TV shows and films. She had a recurring role on “Water Rats” and “Farscape.” She appeared in films such as “Superman Returns,” “Long Road to Heaven,” and “The Final Road.” Her most recent role in in a thriller film currently in post-production called “Event Zero.”

Josephine Croft (Allana Truman)


Love interest of Lance Wilkinson, Allana Truman, was played by Josephine Croft, from 2000-2001. Allana and Lance met at a science fiction convention. They were immediately attracted to each other. But before she began to date him, she gave him seven tasks to complete which include such things as finding her favorite actor and getting a photo with him and convincing a fellow classmate UFOs are real. He completes the tasks and they begin a relationship. Allana and Lance left Erinsborough together.

Josephine Croft (Allana Truman)


Josephine Croft has had a few selective roles since her days on “Neighbours.” In 2016, she appeared in 3 films: “The Lucifer Killings,” “The Legend of Ben Hall,” and “Mr Postman.” Before 2016, she had appearances in TV series such as “Blue Heelers” and “Rush.” Her website also notes she is currently a Producer for a film based on a real life story of a South African spy.

Bernard Curry (Luke Handley)


Bernard Curry played Luke Handley from 1995-1996, and made a cameo appearance on the show in 2005. Early on, Luke became attracted to his neighbour Libby Kennedy. He tried to resist her but eventually he gave into temptation. However, after her parents disapprove he ended the relationship because he didn’t see a future with her. He later dated and proposed to Serendipity Gottlieb. After he got a job offer in Japan they leave together. However, Luke returned and revealed they had broken up.

Bernard Curry (Luke Handley)


Since his last appearance on “Neighbours,” in 2005, Bernard Curry has had a rather successful TV career. He had recurring roles on “Out Of The Blue,” “Satisfaction,” “Home & Away,” “Faking It,” and “Wentworth Prison.” Not to mention his numerous cameo appearances in other TV shows such as “Once Upon a Time.” His most recent role will be Zac in the 2017 feature film “Almost Broadway.” He also hosted first four seasons of Beauty and the Geek Australia from 2009 to 2012.

David Hoflin (Oliver Barnes)


Adopted son of Pamela and Clifford Barnes, Oliver Barnes was played by David Hoflin, from 2007-2011. Oliver was the biological son of Richard Aaronow and Rebecca Napier, which he later discovered. When Pamela and Clifford die, Oliver was supposed to receive their entire fortune. However, he chose to travel the world and allowed his brother to inherit the family fortune. David reprised his role of Oliver for a short time in 2011.

David Hoflin (Oliver Barnes)


David Hoflin’s character may have had some ups and downs on the TV show, however, that does not translate to his acting resume. He has has done very well on television. He had recurring roles of popular shows such as “Alcatraz,” “Crossbones,” and “American Crime.” He currently plays F. Scott Fitzgerald on the the Amazon series “Z: The Beginning Of Everything.” He plays opposite Christina Ricci. In 2013, he married “Neighbours” co-star Natalie Blair.

Michelle Ang (Lori Lee)


Lori Lee was played by Michelle Ang from 2002-2003, and reprised her role in 2004. Lori arrived to Ramsay Street at the home of her boyfriend, Jack Scully. Unfortunately, she immediately didn’t get along with his mother. Jack and Lori agree to repeat year 12 together. When Harold Bishop decided to write a play for the community center, Lori jumped on as director. She casted Jack and Nina into the leads, unbeknownst their attraction to each other. She later had a one night stand with Connor and became pregnant. After debating abortion, she decided to have the child.

Michelle Ang (Lori Lee)


Michelle Ang is multi-talented – she is a skilled ballerina as well as actress. Therfore, its no wonder her career took off after the show. However, her breakout role that launched her into international fame was playing Alex on “Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462.” A role which she reprised on the TV series “The Walking Dead.” In 2017, she is set to star in the comedy drama “Fallen Stars,” co-starring Ryan O’Nan.

Robert La Castra (Eddie Buckingham)


Visitor of Madge and Harold Bishop, Eddie Buckingham, only appeared on the show in 1990. Eddie was played by Robert La Castra. While on the show, Eddie set up and ran a food stall. Eddie developed an interest in Caroline and Christina Alessi. Caroline pretended to be Christina on a date. When Eddie and Christina found out they tell Caroline they got engaged after their first date. However, they revealed the truth after an engagement party was beginning to be planned. Eddie went back to England after hearing his father was ill.

Robert La Castra (Eddie Buckingham)


After leaving the show Robert “Bob” La Castra did not landed any acting gigs. However, he did turn to writing. He became a relatively successful writer for children’s shows. He worked on “The Shapies” and did a lot of work on the hit show “Bananas in Pyjamas.” He also owns a production company called Little House Productions. He is currently a City of Gold Coast councillor, first elected in 1997.

Fletcher O’Leary (Mickey Gannon)


Mickey Gannon is the son of Ned Parker and Kirsten Gannon after they had a brief encounter at their year 10 formal. Mickey was played by Fletcher O’Leary. At one point, Mickey got electrocuted after a faulty pool light electrified Frazer’s pool. While in the hospital, Ned visited, but was asked to leave because it was immediate family only allowed. This was when Ned tells Mickey he is actually his father.  At one point, he released a handbrake of a moving van that barreled into local transportation. In the end, after being shuffled between many different families, he went to live with his mom.

Fletcher O’Leary (Mickey Gannon)


Fletcher O’Leary played Mickey Gannon from 2007-2009. He has definitely grown up, since his days on “Neighbours,” and is unrecognizable. He has grown out his adorable blonde hair, into long luscious locks. In 2012, he appeared in the feature film “The Mystery of a Hansom Cab .” As Fletcher is only 19-years-old, we expect he still has many roles coming to him in the near future.

James Sorensen (Declan Napier)


James Sorensen played Declan Napier from 2007 to 2010. Declan discovered Richard raped Rebecca, and he tried to drown him on a fishing trip. Richard, however, is diagnosed with Kidney failure and dies before he is given justice. Declan began dating Bridget Parker. They eventually get married, after Bridget is paralyzed on one-side from an accident. They late have a child. Unfortunately, Bridget died soon after giving birth to India. He eventually left with his daughter.

James Sorensen (Declan Napier)


After leaving the show in 2010, James Sorensen joined the Australian Army School of Infantry, Special Forces Training Centre in Singleton, New South Wales. However, after a few months, during an exercise, he ended up in the hospital. After the army, he began a Personal Training business, and began studying for a Nursing Diploma. He has been credited with only 2 roles. In 2012, he played the role of Jake on “Conspiracy 365.” In 2013, he appeared on one episode of “Mr & Mrs Murder.”

Eliza Szonert (Danni Stark)


Eliza Szonert played Danni Stark from 1993-1996, and appeared in one episode in 2005. Danni was a diabetic. When neighbor Michael Martin sees her, he assumes she is using heroin and begins to gossip about her. She pretends it’s true because she loves the attention. She dated many boys on Ramsay Street: Michael Martin, Ben Dalziel, Steve George and Luke Handley. After being devastated by the tragic accident of her mother, she takes a job overseas.

Eliza Szonert (Danni Stark)


Eliza had a gap in her acting resume right after leaving the show, in 1996. It wasn’t until 2000 that she made her way back into acting. She had a small role on the TV vampire series “Angel,” and then landed a role in the film “The Dish,” alongside Sam Neill. In 2008, she had a recurring role in the show “Underbelly.” Her most recent role, was voice acting, in the animated movie “Little Johnny the Movie.” She recently made headlines after getting stuck in Malaysia without a passport, and her painful custody battle with her ex-partner.

Rebecca Ritters (Hannah Martin)


The child of Philip and Julie Martin was Hannah Martin, also known as Button. Hannah was played by Rebecca Ritters. During her early days on Ramsay street, she had a hard time adjusting and hated the area, until she befriended Toby Mangel. Toby luckily was also there to stop Raymond Chambers from abducting her. She had an emotional ride dealing with her father’s new relationships and her new siblings. She left the show after she decided to move to Darwin with her family.

Rebecca Ritters (Hannah Martin)


Since leaving the show Rebecca Ritters had a few roles on TV. She had recurring roles on “Coronation Street,” “All Saints,” and “Rush.”  She received a degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Melbourne. She was later offered a position as a news and current affairs producer for the Australian Broadcasting Company. Today, she works as a producer for Deutsche Welle, in Berlin.

Sam Clark (Ringo Brown)


Ringo Brown was played by Sam Clark from 2007-2010. One of Ringo’s biggest issues was dealing with an eating disorder. He suffered from anorexia and took appetite suppressants. He also had a brief relationship with the much older woman, Carmella Cammeniti. Their relationship has its ups and downs, which led to Ringo publicly admitting his love for her, which she did not reciprocate. He left town with his mother, embarrassed.

Sam Clark (Ringo Brown)


Sam Clark had released music while he was still on the show, and continued to do so after. In July 2010, he released his third single “Devastated.” It debuted at number one on the Australia Physical Singles Chart. He also continued to act, with roles in films such as “Mental,” “Dance Night Obsession,” and “Monday at 11:01 A.M..” In 2016, he was also casted as Leo, in the TV movie of “Grease Live!.”

Stephanie McIntosh (Sky Mangel)


Stephanie McIntosh played Sky Mangel from 2003 to 2007. In 2004, Sky Mangel and Lana Crawford shared in the series first ever on-screen lesbian kiss. Sky had a one-night stand with Stingray and later finds out she’s pregnant. While in the hospital she shares a room with Teresa Cammeniti, who planned to steal her baby. After the birth of her daughter, Kerry, Teresa sets fire to the hospital and Kerry goes missing. However, viewers find out Stingray had taken the baby, and passed out from drinking.

Stephanie McIntosh (Sky Mangel)


Stephanie McIntosh continued to act after the show. She is rumored to have auditioned for some very big roles, however, she never landed the part. She had appearances in movies like “Liars All” and “Red Herring.” In 2014, she began dating landscape designer, Peter Hieatt. In December of the same year, she gave birth to their first child, Milla.

Alan Fletcher (Dr. Karl Kennedy)


The Kennedy family was originally brought to Ramsay Street, in 1994, in order to bring the show back to its roots. The creators wanted to have a more innocent and wholesome family, compared to the misfits living on the street. Despite his “wholesome” character traits, the Dr. also had many ups and downs such as drunk driving, online dating, and border control problems. Many of Dr. Karl Kennedy’s fans were outraged when he was mysteriously replaced in April 2017.

Alan Fletcher (Dr. Karl Kennedy)


Alan Fletcher is one of the longest running characters on “Neighbours”. Along with appearing on the show, he is also the lead singer of a band called “Waiting Room”, who has toured the UK several times. Fletcher also appeared in several other shows such as “Days of Our Lives” and “Shakespeare Republic”. For his role of Dr. Karl Kennedy, Fletcher had been given titles such as “Top ten hottest Aussie soap guys” and “Top Soap Bloke”.

Kylie Minogue (Charlene Robinson)

Charlene Robinson, formerly Mitchell, was the daughter of Fred and Madge Mitchell. Although she was a wild child, she eventually matured and fell in love with Scott Robinson. The  two eventually married. The episode of their wedding is the high rated ever in soap opera history. Charlene left the show in July 1988 when she left to begin her apprenticeship at a garage in Brisbane.

Kylie Minogue (Charlene Robinson)

Kylie appeared in a few various TV shows and film after leaving “Neighbours”. However, she saw much success in the music industry. She released her first album, “Kylie” while still on the show in 1988. The album went gold in the United States and spent more than a year on the UK Albums Chart. She has since released 12 more albums. In summer 2017, Minogue began teasing fans with pictures, on her social media, of her recording her new album. It will be her first album since 2015.

Craig McLachlan (Henry Ramsay)


Craig McLachlan played Henry Ramsay from 1987-1989. Henry was the son of Madge Bishop and Fred Mitchell and older brother to Charlene Robinson. After getting into some trouble, Henry ended up in jail, where he met Kenny Larkin. Henry eventually moved to Erinsborough and formed a tight friendship with Mike Young.

Craig McLachlan (Henry Ramsay)


After leaving “Neighbors,” Craig McLachlan had a brief singing career. He released a number-two hit “Mona,” and performed in London’s West End in “Grease.” However, he returned to his soap opera roots, and played Grant Mitchell on “Home & Away.” He has had recurring roles on multiple TV series such as “House Husbands,” “Deep Water,” and “The Wrong Girl.” He currently plays Doctor Lucien Blake on the TV series “The Doctor Blake Mysteries.”

Plain Jane Superbrain was portrayed by Annie Jones, from 1986-1989. She was the daughter of Peter and Amanda Harris, and Mrs. Mangel’s granddaughter. She was also the love interest of Guy Pearce’s Mike. However, she really became the talk of the town, after she got rid of her glasses and let down her, simultaneously shedding her nerdy look. Annie Jones, returned in 2005, to play Jane in one more episode.

Unfortunately, Annie Jones’ career never really took-off, after leaving the show. In 1993, she had a recurring role on the TV series “Snowy,” and from 1993-1994 a role on “Newlyweds.” From there she ultimately only landed small roles, appearing on one episode of many TV series. Her most recent roles in 2016 were as Jude on “Jack Irish,” and Karen Triggs on “Winners & Losers.” However, her lack of roles may be due to her mother’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, as Annie let acting take a back seat to take care of her.

Maxine Klibingaitis (Terry Inglis)


Maxine Klibingaitis played Terry Inglis for her short, but chaotic time on “Neighbours.” Terry killed Charles Dunham and then shot Paul in the shoulder, after he tried and report her. She departed the show once she is arrested. She wrote to Paul to come visit her, but he declines. She later committed suicide off-screen. She is only character to have died by suicide.  Terry only appeared in 70 episodes.

Maxine Klibingaitis (Terry Inglis)


Maxine Klibingaitis certainly had one of the most controversial storylines on the show. She continued acting since leaving the show in 1985. She had various roles in films such as “Candy Regentag,” “Prisoner Queen-Mindless Music & Mirrorballs ,” “Boronia Boys,” and her most recent role in 2013, “The House Cleaner.” She was married to the Australian television director, Andrew Friedman, until his death, and they had one son, Zane Friedman.
