Hollywood Heros–5 More Celebrity Environmentalists Leading the Way


Saving the environment isn’t easy, so it helps if you’re already an influential leader among the Hollywood elite.  We’ve already shared one list of eco-friendly celebrities and their conservation efforts, so here are a few more folks to follow who are using their fame to give back to the environment.

Julia Roberts

The Pretty Woman star is a big supporter of alternative fuel sources, and despite her estimated net worth of $140 Million, she still drives a Prius.  Roberts’s home is solar powered, and she and her husband took a successful stand against oil drilling in New Mexico.

James Cameron

James Cameron

The Academy Award winning director also powers his home with solar power and drives a hybrid car.  He’s also actively supporting efforts to preserve a portion of the Amazon rainforest and the people that live there.  Most notably, Cameron’s film Avatar is all about people living in harmony with the Earth, and the film has inspired supporters all over the world to plant trees.

Cameron’s Aliens star, Sigourney Weaver, is also a big supporter of conserving the natural world we all share.  Aside from lending her voice to informational nature documentaries, she is also a huge supporter of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, having played the famous conservationist and zoologist in the film Gorillas in the Mist.  Weaver also joins James Cameron in his efforts to preserve the Amazon rainforest.

English musician Sting is not only a multi-grammy award winning singer, he’s also a huge environmentalist.  He and his wife, Trudy, founded the Rainforest foundation in 1989, and a large portion of Sting’s fortune goes to protecting the Amazon rainforest and the indigenous people that live there.  He also hosts a biennial concert at Carnegie Hall in New York, where fellow celebrities can join him in showing their support for this important effort.

The Harry Potter star is known for her humanitarian efforts, making notable contributions to organizations such as UNICEF and the UK charity Children in Need.  She’s also an environmentalist, supporting the Wild Trout Trust and working with fashion designers to create fair trade sustainable clothing.
